Good Thing, too
Jan 8, 2010 by Naomi.
Life began as microbes. You can look that up in science books if you don’t believe me. Then as microbes began to eat each other a race began to make larger bodies. They tried to devour each other. So the molecules grew larger to escape destruction from other such molecules. The mechanism to do that was already in place. The trouble was that all the energy to grow required more oxygen and just where was that extra oxygen supposed to come from? Well good things come to those who wait and so it did. Life came up out of the water as plants and lo and behold in their growth, what did they release but oxygen! So there was the energy to make molecules bigger and more complicated and so it went. Billions and billions of years later here we are — a collection of molecules that tops all collections. Complex animals that imagine and invent, build and destroy, dream and fly past every known body in the galaxy. Do we have such a thing as humility? No of course not. We simply keep going on.

What Now?
Jan 8, 2010 by Naomi.
Ashton left for Oxnard yesterday and her checked bag with a few important presents was too heavy to meet requirements so she took out a few items to lighten the load. I will take them to her when I visit later this month. She had rolled the air mattress and left “her” room neat so all I had do this morning was relocate my laptop and store the bedding. Not a strenuous job but I tired. I rinsed out towels and hung them on the line. First time this year. Not that I really expect them to dry but if they freeze some I can hang them to finish drying in the house. The air inside can use some humidity, my head aches sometimes from dry sinuses. The house feels empty being by myself again.
Occasionally I may have a visitor but not enough to make a habit. I will store the air mattress and pump not expecting to need it until, or if, Nancy comes to visit. My Pendleton blanket is stored away are other wool and knitted lap robes. Although I may have need of those because the north wind doth blow and we will have snow but poor robin has not arrived yet so I will just have to see how the weather turns out. I signed up to use the exercise room at the Community Center to muscle up my breadbasket. Not eating is not enough to take down my circumference so I will workout on machines at least a couple of times a week. It costs $20 a month or $3 per day, depending on usage. Good deal, I think. For now I will sit back and plan on what comes next.
