Release Books
Looking into bookstores today I learned about conditions of used books and how they are judged for resale. My local bookstore looked over four books that were unmarked as to library or other source. I have an account there and the owners add or subtract when I bring books in or buy theirs. Two of my offers were rejected – one because the binding was visible between the pages when opened at random, the other rejected because the bookstore already had copies and wanted no more. I will donate them to my library for the fall book sale. I got a few dollars for the other two and spent twice as much for three books I wanted to own. If they turn out to be as interesting as others I’ve kept those books will be read and re-read many times. “Play Dirty” and “Envy” by Sandra Brown are hardbacks I return to often. “The Last of the Breed” by L’Amour is falling apart from frequent reading. That and “Montana Sky” are lightweight paperbacks are easy to hold so I read before falling asleep. Jerry told me about a Bellingham author that comes to his early morning coffee meeting and his are courtroom mysteries that I like to read. But they are hardback or heavy paperbacks so I read them while sitting in my recliner. However while I compose this blog I am soaking my feet to soften my toenails for a badly needed trim with some time between the pages of “Guardian of Lies” by Steve Martini. I do not plan to take these to the bookstore anytime soon.
