Pulling

My neighbors mow their lawns and driveways, grass, weeds or whatever. I decided to pull the stuff in my front yard especially next to the sidewalk where previous mowing had left a brown border of dead weed leftovers. I was out early and when my back had enough of pulling and my fingers were sore I sat down with the Quaker and toast. I relaxed to regain my strength and woke up much later. But back out I went and pulled some more. I don’t see much progress when I look out the window at the yard but I know I did, make progress, that is. The temperature got way up in the seventies and made me sweat. I can do some more tomorrow and make a clean sweep before I take off for Oxnard. I packed my sun suit and shorts, a clue to my expectation of sunny California. I won’t take an umbrella. If it rains I will simply stay indoors and probably get my toenails painted. There are no weeds to pull. I do recall thwarting some pigeons. Maybe they took the hint and took up housekeeping elsewhere and I can just relax and visit.

Pussy Galore

A congregation of cats met in the street in front of my house this afternoon. The meeting began with the calico cat, recently moved into the neighborhood, stopping to clean its nether parts, back leg stretched skyward ignoring traffic nonchalantly as Marilyn Monroe would while seductively preening. The cat lounged then on her back obviously reeking of come hither hormones. And cats came. A completely black cat sauntered by, followed by a black cat with white socks and a white splotch one side of its nose. A sleek tiger cat was curious but walked on by, maybe to wait on the corner, thank you Patsy Cline. Calico lounged, rolled on her back the way horses do in dust bowls to discourage biting insects. But she really looked inviting. Quite aware of traffic the cat ignored cars as they slowed and turned out to avoid her. Five cats at one time held my attention. I had not realized there were so many around my block. This I saw out my front window. A different movie from those I see while doing dishes at my kitchen sink. I am happy that my neighbors entertain me with their pets. Sure saves on cat food and kitty litter.
